Subject: Memorial for Dr. Peter J. Murphy

From: Kathleen Murphy Fellbaum

Dear friends and relatives,

Dad's funeral service / wake is finally arranged.

Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 1:00 pm at the Newman Center in Amherst, MA, followed by a reception / wake at La Cucina di Pinocchio in downtown Amherst. Please contact my sister, Sue Etzel, at 413-586-6646 for further information and directions. All are welcome, at either or both locations.

We have arranged for an endowed sponsorship in his name through Plan International. The endowment will provide financial support to a Colombian child through the age of 18, at which point the sponsorship will shift to another child. We will put the money that was given to us in Denver toward this sponsorship. Thank you to all of you who donated in memory of Dad.

If others would like to donate to the endowed sponsorship, they may send a contribution to:

*** Please write: "In memory of Peter J. Murphy" or "Peter J. Murphy Endowed Sponsorship" in the memo portion of the check.

I understand from Mike Wallace that the class from Webb is going to make some sort of memorial gift in Dad's honor... perhaps a tree or "something more practical-- like electrical equipment for the Mechanical Engineering Lab where... he blew more than his share of fuses." I love the idea of memorial fuses.

Many of you have sent cards, photos and emails with your memories of Dad. Thank you. It helps a lot. I am saving them all, and sharing them with the family.

Several of you have been helpful in sending information on to others. I hope I can ask you to do this again. Uncle Tommy, will you please forward this to your contacts from Regis? Mike (Wallace), will you please forward this to the folks from Webb? Mike (Doria), will you please forward this to anyone from Hopkins that you're in touch with? Blair, would you please forward this to folks at Cornell? Tim, Christi, Ron, and Ted, would one of you please forward this information on to your colleagues at the USBR and Dept of Fish and Wildlife along with our deep gratitude to all of you for your support of us in a very difficult time.

And if anyone knows how to reach Dad's former colleagues at the USGS in Marlborough, MA and pass this information on to them, that would be great!

Thanks.
Love,
Kath
